TEFAF impressions

Today, it's the last day of TEFAF and I want to share some of my impressions. Voila a few pictures showing some great pieces of art, my friend Carola and me and the interior decoration of the fair...
a great Warhol - the green is so exceptional

Carola and a fabulous piece by Damian Hirst
Chagal

Nolde

this sculpture by Anish Kapoor totally draws you in, it has such a special aura

the TEFAF is known for its rich flower decoration. The walls of the main entrance were covered with pink and white roses - so pretty!!!

Actually, the TEFAF is so much more fabulous than I could ever capture on pictures...

Happy Friday

This morning I came home to my parents after a long week of work, studies and late hour library sessions. So, it totally made my day to find some unexpected surprises waiting for me!

First, I got a package from my dearest friend Helena from New York! (Go check her lovely site: http://www.sgcoterie.com/).

She sent me these incredibly cute earings, which go perfectly with all of my outfits

And this really adorable NY souvenir. It shall remind me each day of the fact that I finally HAVE to plan my NY trip!!!

Then, my mom brought me some small gifts from Paris

It almost felt like Birthday today :)

Sorry for my recent absence, but I am literally covered with work, there are some important deadlines and exams coming up and I just wish my days were twice as long!! So I guess I won't be blogging too much during the next days, but I make sure to post at least some great TEFAF pics very soon! xoxo

TEFAF

The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), which is the world's most prestigious art and antiques fair, is going to take place from the 13. - 22.03 here in Maastricht. I went there last year for the first time and was speachless about the incredible masterpieces showcased, most of which you would actually expect to see in a Museum. Last year's highlight was a van Gogh painting priced at 30 million Euros; so these are the dimension were are actually talking about!
Tomorrow is going to be the preview, which is just insane: people arriving in their private jets, the creme de la creme of galerists and art collectors!
In case you are interested in art, this fair is absolutely worthwhile. However, tickets are rather expensive at 55 Euros per person.
I am going to be there tomorrow at the preview (!) and some other days and I'll make sure to keep you posted about all the art and glamour!!

goody bag

These bags from the Chanel Fall 09 collection really made me smile. I vaguely remeber having something similar when I was a little girl to store my dolls' accessories. Obviously, these versions are more sophisticated holding an adorable quilted bag and other useful Chanel things. It is a bit unclear if these bag creations have any practical relevance; but still Karl just always has the best und funniest ideas and who would say no to the Chanel goody bag??

clothes that girls want to wear!

I am deeply in love with everything Isabel Marant.
So, despite several bloggers already having reviewed it, I just HAVE to show my personal highlights from Marant's Fall 09 collection:

It is perfect: the Harem pants tucked into knee-high boots, fur, leopard, tweed, studded boots...
needless to say that I would even rob a bank to get all of this...

pretty in the rain

After a series of beautiful, sunny days, I was seriously hoping that Spring could start anytime soon...so my dissapointment was huge, when I woke up this morning and it was raining terribly...and it didn't stop since!
I hate rain, my hair gets curly, I don't know which shoes to wear....ahhh it's no good!
Then again what to expect when you live in central Europe??
In the end, it's all about making the best out of it, trying to enjoy yourself and being fabulous, no matter the weather! Just don't forget to bring an umbrella, ever :)

Happy B-day Barbie

Today, it's Barbie's 50th Birthday, and after all these years she still looks stunning and remains a best-seller.
Barbie has always been very controversial concering her adequateness as a kids toy and the distorted image of women she is said to convey.
As for me, I had lots of Barbies, perhaps 40 or so, and 3 Kens and the Jeep, the dream house, and countless outfits....:) and after all I would not consider myself as having been taught a wrong beauty ideal. What I actually want to say is that Barbie is fun and I always enjoyed having them. I guess on the weekend I have to get my old Barbie box out of the basement:)

As you can see below, Barbie experienced quite a developement since her early days...

That's the first Barbie in her striped swimsuit. (Ken used to look so different, too!)
I guess, that's the Barbie of my era with a huge fringe, bright make-up and all the funky outfits:)

Well and that's today's Barbie with perfect hair and smokey eyes.
These are some of the Designers' versions of Barbie:

Calvin Klein

Anna Sui

And recently Karl styled and photographed some Barbies. They can be admired in form of a little exibition at Colette in Paris from today until March 15.

leopard scarf

I have been searching for a great leopard scarf, like this one from Louis Vuitton for a long time...
Last week, I finally found one chez Zara...

the scarf is really cozy and so versatile, due to the dark shades. I guess, I'm gonna wear it a lot!!

By the way, today was the most beautiful Sunday in a long time. I spent my day sitting in a Cafe, sipping Latte Machiatto and absorbing the sun...it felt so good!

Coco Avant Chanel

Finally, the trailer of the biopic about Coco Chanel is out. Audrey Tautou (excellent choice!!) is starring the young Gabriele, which revolutionized women's wear and thus helped to form the modern woman. The movie is based on the biography by Edmonde Charles-Roux and deals with the first, less pleasant part, of Coco's life, which she always tried very hard to hide. So the movie is going to be exciting, as it reveals new facets of this great woman; plus the customes are going to be supervised by Karl himself!

The movie is going to start April 22 in France and Belgium. The date of release for the U.S. is not yet set; it is showing in the Netherlands May 28, but unfortunatelly I found no info on the start in Germany.

Enough of talking, voila le trailer, which is just avaliable in French:

Big shoulders

At first I was a bit skeptical about the "big shoulders" trend. But once I got used to it, I can't actually get enough anymore! I wonder when Zara & Co. are finally showing some great pieces with big shoulder pads, I'll be the first to get one....!!

Christophe Decarnin is the master of big shoulders, they're again a big theme in his new Fall 09 collection.

Twenty8Twelve also showed some nice tops with big shoulders. I really like the left one, it should be pretty easy to wear...
